Renaissance and Baroque dancing in the Bay Area
The San Francisco Renaissance & Baroque Dancers was founded by Jennifer Meller in the spring of 2012. Originally the affiliate dance troupe of San Francisco Renaissance Voices, we specialize in reconstructions of early music operas from the fourteenth through eighteenth centuries. We also seek to preserve and perpetuate interest in early dance through workshops and classes in Baroque and Renaissance dance history, technique, and notation.
Our mentors and Dancing Masters include Philippa Waite (Consort de Danse Baroque), Catherine Turocy (New York Baroque Dance Company), Bruno Benne (Compagnie Beaux-Champs), and Judy Kennedy (Ashland Shakespeare Festival). We also collaborate with various early music ensembles in the Bay Area including Marin Baroque, Nash Baroque, and members of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra.
At the end of 2019, Jennifer Meller joined Dance Through Time as Co-Artistic Director with fellow dancer Carlos Venturo. Continue to follow our adventures in dance history on the Dance Through Time website!
